Everything is on schedule for the new GP/ hospital car park in Millom

The first phase of work to extend the car park at Millom hospital is now complete as St Georges Hall is fully demolished.

Representatives of the Millom Health Action Group said:3
“Although the demolishment of St Georges was very sad to many in the town, this now secures the future development of the site for parking and a new GP practice extension which is well over due for the community.” tweet

Michael Smillie, Director of Strategy & Support Services for Cumbria Partnership Foundation Trust said:
“The demolition of St George’s hall is an important step for ourselves and our partners to provide more high quality services locally for our patients on the Millom hospital site.”
To enable as little disruption to services and patients as possible contractors managed to complete the demolition without closing the main road. tweet

“All staff are very positive and happy to see that everything has gone well and we are confident that the car park will be finished within the next month”. tweet

6Some of the old hall still remains; the original stone wall has been kept at the front and the rear end of the car park.

Work to ensure correct drainage and soak away for the car park is now being undertaken in order to prevent flooding and the next steps for the contractors include creating the new disabled parking at the front of the hospital to ensure ease of access for the public.
