Since the meeting in June 2014 at which the care providers agreed to work with the community we have:
- [July 2014] Re-opened the hospital ward
- [July 2014] Produced an innovative recruitment video with local school children for more GP’s which helped in the recruitment of 3 part time doctors (a 4th joining)
- [July 2014] Distributed leaflets on how to use health services correctly at Millom carnival
- [July 2014] Co-opted a shop window in Millom to run health promotion messages and updates
- [July/ Aug 2014] Undertaken a survey to understand the public priorities in healthcare in Millom
- [Sept 2014] Provided a keynote speech at CPFT annual members meeting
- [Oct 2014] Upgraded the X-ray facility at the hospital
- [Oct 2014] Created a new newspaper ‘Around the Combe’ full of health promotion messages
- [Dec 2014] Successful joint Millom Alliance/CLIC bid for a £20k grant in to the North West Leadership Academy dragons den pitch to develop an out of hospital leadership programme
- [Jan 2015] Placed the first advanced community paramedic in the North West in Millom, fully integrated with the clinical team
- [Jan 2015] Created capacity to support more patients requiring intravenous treatment in the community
- [Ongoing] Developed a sustained care home support scheme
- [Jan 2015] Successful £28k bid to Health Education England North West for Telehealth equipment
- [Jan 2015] Dedicated a nurse one day a week to work with the action group mobilising the community for health and wellbeing
- [Feb 2015] Purchase of St Georges Hall completed to enable demolition and creation of car park for the hospital
- [Feb 2015] Created a poster to help the community access the most appropriate source of help
- [March 2015] Presented at the Kings Fund conference in London in March – taking a joint team of GP practice, CPFT, UHMBT, NWAS and the community group
- [March 2015] This was £995,000 obtained in principle from NHS England for new GP premises
- [April 2015] Identified video consulting equipment to link Millom up to A&E at FGH and also to CHOC
- [April/ May 2015] Worked with local schools on a series of plays around using health services
- [On-going] Whole town initiative to carry organ donor cards
- [June 2015] A Care Navigator role was introduced to support patients within the community whilst providing social interventions for those at risk of poor health
- [July 2015] A Case Manager role was introduced to help support patients with long term health conditions
- [July 2015] The Millom Alliance won the Local Community Initiative Award at the UK Public Sector Communication Awards for their GP’s for Millom campaign video
- [September 2015] The new car park at Millom Hospital was completed
- [October 2015] The Millom Alliance hosted a public meeting to provide health service updates to the community within and around Millom
- [October 2015] Reminiscence software which provides memory therapy for dementia and neurology patients was installed at Millom hospital.
- [April 2016] The Millom Health Action Group set up the Millom Bereavement Group offering support to local people who have lost a loved one
- [March 2016] The Millom Health Action Group launched a new type two diabetes support group called ‘2s R Us’
- [May 2016] The Millom Health Action Group launched the ‘Hope and Cope’ friendship group to support people with chronic, debilitating or long term conditions
- [May 2016] The Millom Health Action Group launched Autism Around the Combe which involved meetings offering support and knowledge.
- [May 2016] The Millom Parents and Carers Disability group hosted a person centred planning session to encourage locals to ensure that children and young people are at the centre of their planning
- [May 2016] The Millom Health Action Group and Millom’s community paramedic have worked together to secure two brand new defibrillators for the town
- [May 2016] Launch of an Information Technology link between Millom GP surgery and the A&E department at Furness General Hospital allowing two way consultations between the two sites
- [May 2016] Millom Community Hospital awarded the national community hospital integration and innovation award
- [July 2016] Virtual out of hours GP appointments became available by a state of the art video link between Millom Community Hospital and Cumbria Health on Call (CHOC).
- [July 2016] Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust joined the Waterloo House GP practice as partners
- [August 2016] The use of video consultations within mental health clinics were successfully piloted between Barrow in Furness and Millom
- [October 2016] Launch of a Telehealth link connecting Haverigg prison and Furness General Hospital to reduce the number of journeys out of the prison for healthcare.
